2019 Thymiopoulos 'Young Vines' Xinomavro

This ones for the Pinot Noir and Gamay lovers. A new grape to Star Wines, but by no means a new grape to Greece’s Northern Naoussa Region. Considered Greece’s most highly regarded red grape variety, Xinomavro (pronounced ksino-mav-roh) can be made in a multitude of styles, rose, reds from light to full and in the most renowned cases it’s referred to as ‘Greek Barolo’ a reference to Northern Italy’s famed (and expensive) Nebbiolos. The high acidity and tannin content give wines with what seem like a lighter weight but carry great structure, similar to those in Italy which can be aged for decades. As the name suggests, this is made using Thymiopoulos 'young vines and is made as an early drinking approachable style, fermented in tank then transferred to concrete vats for 8 months aging before being bottled. Bright, crunchy and moreish, this is a great entry point to Xinomavro, and hopefully it peaks your interest!
